PLAYWRITING
HABIBI IN CHIEF by Zuhdi Boueri
*2026 Semi Finalist for Eugene O'Neill Conference
HABIBI IN CHIEF is a political farce about Sami Rahman, a queer Arab American Vice President who suddenly becomes Acting President after the President is kidnapped. Thrust into the Oval Office chaos, Sami must juggle national crisis, family meddling, and his secret sexuality—while journalists, staff, and opposition threaten to unravel everything. The play blends fast-paced farce with real emotional stakes, as Sami is pushed to decide whether to hide behind the perfect presidential image or embrace his true identity. At its heart, the piece is about power, family, queerness, and whether we need to always forgive family no matter the cost.
